Groups Call for Limits on Lawmakers’ Outside Income

Earlier today, a coalition of good government groups called for the state to impose limits on lawmakers outside income, and to prohibit legislators and senior staff from engaging in services that involve a fiduciary relationship.

Serving_two_mastersCommon Cause NY, Reinvent Albany and NYPIRG released a report titled “Serving Two Masters: Outside Income and Conflict of Interest in Albany.”

The report calls for a cap on outside income at 15% of their legislative salary, which is the limit that Congress has in place. It also calls for a prohibition on lawmakers practicing professions that involve fiduciary duties. Finally, the report calls for better enforcement from the state’s ethics agencies.
